Brendan Finnerty

Brendan M. Finnerty, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Assistant Attending Surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Finnerty graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Chemical and Biological Engineering, with a specialization in Biotechnology.  He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he was awarded the Bamberger Scholarship for academic excellence.  Dr. Finnerty completed his surgical residency at the New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was selected as Administrative Chief during his final year.  During his residency, he also dedicated two years to complete a research fellowship in Endocrine Oncology, where he studied the biological mechanisms of metastasis in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, and published articles investigating thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and neuroendocrine diseases.  After residency, Dr. Finnerty then completed a clinical fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medicine and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Finnerty’s academic interests are in clinical and translational research in the field of Endocrine Oncology, with a focus in studying the mechanisms of tumor growth and metastasis in endocrine and neuroendocrine tumors.  He has authored many publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as book chapters in surgical textbooks, and has presented his research at national surgical meetings including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.  Dr. Finnerty is a member of professional associations including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES), American College of Surgeons (ACS), North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS), and American Thyroid Association (ATA).
